Microscope overview

The LSM 5 Live is a microscope able to analyze high-speed processes with a time resolution of just a few microseconds. It is also currently equipped with a UV laser ablation system for wounding. Despite being a confocal system, its Z-resolution is lower than point-scanning systems such as the Zeiss LSM510 META due to the usage of a slit system rather than conventional pinholes.

System overview

The Andor Revolution spinning disk confocal microscope is a fast imaging system which provides a tradeoff between confocality, resolution and speed. It is an inverted microscope ideal for live cell applications which require fast acquisition speeds rather than high resolution images. The scanning unit achieves confocality by directing light through a spinning disk with many small pinholes. Images are then acquired with a sensitive EMCCD which allows for very small exposure times…

WEDNESDAYS 9h30 A.M. @ Seminars Room (P3-C-32) (from 10th March 2010)

Don’t forget that the new lab meetings format is the following:-	Starting time: 09h30 -	2 speakers, each one working with a different model (fly and fish) – as there are more fly people than fish people, this is not always true…-	30 min presentation + 30 min questions = 1 hour per speaker

Research Interests

Our research interests are focused on the understanding of the molecular mechanisms which lead to neurodegeneration in diseases such as Parkinson's, Huntington's, or Alzheimer's disease. These diseases are intimately associated with protein misfolding and aggregation in specific regions of the brain.
