Immunology and Infectious Diseases We aim at understanding how humans interact with and defend themselves from pathogens, while maintaining a controlled and healthy immune system. We focus on the basic biological mechanisms that underlie the dynamic interaction between host and pathogens (retroviruses, pneumonia causing agents, the malaria parasite). We are also concerned with autoimmune diseases and allergy and seek to test ways to tune down undesirable immune responses. Finally, we investigate the potent anti-tumor activity of immune system cells in the prospect of treating cancer through immunotherapy.
