Biobanco-IMM The Biobanco-IMM is integrated in the Academic Medical Center of Lisbon (CAML), which brings together on the same campus a research institute (Instituto de Medicina Molecular - IMM), a medical school (Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de Lisboa - FMUL) and an university hospital (Centro Hospitalar Lisboa Norte - CHLN, Hospital de Santa Maria - HSM). Biobanks are strategic tools for the development of medicine and translational research. The Biobanco-IMM includes biological samples (from surgery, biopsies, blood samples, …) which are voluntarily donated with permission for preservation and future use in biomedical research. All samples are accompanied by clinical information, a crucial factor for subsequent research. The Biobanco-IMM is approved by the Institutional Ethics Committee and by the National Commission for Data Protection. This service includes collection, processing and storage of biological samples from donors, along with relevant clinical information. Samples will be available to the scientific community in order to facilitate, promote and develop national and international cooperation on translational research. In addition to the storage of biological material, the biobank also provide services such as DNA and RNA extraction from tissue, blood and other body fluids, evaluation of the biological material quality, data management and general support for research projects. Rates The Biobanco-IMM pricing policy has in consideration the following aspects: · For IMM groups, there is no payment associated with deposit of samples. · For external groups the terms of the agreement have to be individually adapted, depending on the number and type of samples involved.
